How much does it cost to form my LLC?
Basic is $0 plus your state’s filing fee. Plus is $199 plus the state fee and adds your EIN, operating agreement, and business templates. Both are one-time payments with nothing to renew.
What are state filing fees?
State filing fees are charged by your state’s government to officially register your business. They vary by state and are shown before you pay at checkout. BizUp passes them through at cost - we never mark them up.
Is the first year of registered agent really free?
Yes - every formation package includes your first year of registered agent service at no extra cost. After year one, registered agent is part of a Protect subscription.
What is the difference between Form and Protect?
Form is the one-time work of legally creating your business. Protect is the ongoing work of keeping it in good standing - registered agent service, annual report filings, and compliance monitoring. You buy formation once; Protect renews each year.
Do I have to subscribe to Protect?
No. Formation is complete on its own and your first year of registered agent service is included either way. Protect exists because after that first year the state still expects annual reports and a current registered agent - and it doesn’t send reminders.
I already have an LLC. Where do I start?
You don’t need a formation package. Start with Protect or Protect+. We take over your compliance, add registered agent service, and file your annual report from there. If you already have a registered agent, we handle the transfer - and you don’t need to re-form anything.
What’s the difference between Protect and Protect+?
Protect covers the compliance essentials: registered agent, automatic annual report filing, monitoring, and your business health score. Protect+ adds the services growing companies need - certificates of good standing on demand, business amendments, and operating agreement updates.
How is Protect billed, and can I cancel?
Protect and Protect+ are billed annually and renew each year until you cancel. You can cancel any time from your dashboard - there’s no contract and no cancellation fee.
Can I upgrade my plan later?
Yes. You can move from Basic to Plus at any time, or from Protect to Protect+, and you can add individual services whenever you need them. Manage it from your dashboard or ask Astra - you’re never locked into the plan you started on.
Are there hidden fees?
No. Formation prices are one-time, Protect prices are per year, and state fees are always shown before you pay. Nothing is added at checkout that you haven’t already seen.
